The BIG WIPES™ brand is firmly established and out-performs other products in cleaning power, convenience and most importantly, compliance and health & safety.
Sadly there are wet wipes on the market that describe themselves as hand wipes, yet do not comply with the latest amendments of the relevant standards. This lack of compliance can therefore put you and your staff at potential risk. The Sycamore Group, on the other hand, does things differently. We invest in continual advice, review and verification from professional bodies. Consequently, our Big Wipes products remain both legal and safe as the regulations evolve.
Above all, we insist on the following tests to be undergone on all our wipes:
Safety Assessment – Compliance with EU REGULATION (EC) No 1223/2009 – Cosmetic Products
Cosmetics are regulated in the EU by Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, replacing the old 1976 EU Cosmetics Directive (76/768/EEC). The main aim of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 is to ensure that cosmetic products sold within the UK and European Union are safe. It requires cosmetics to cause no damage to human health when applied under normal – or reasonably foreseeable – conditions of use.
In short, this means that each cosmetic product must undergo a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) before it can be placed on the UK and EU market. The CPSR is in two parts:
- Part A – Cosmetic product safety information – aims to gather all the data necessary for the safety assessment and consists of ten sections
- Part B – Safety Assessment – this is the qualified cosmetic safety assessor’s opinion on the safety of the product and consists of four sections.
The cosmetic safety assessor is required to consider the safety of the ingredients in the formulation and the safety of the finished product. In January 2018, Stefanie Zgorzelski, Safety Assessor of KFT Chemieservice GmbH carried out the Safety Assessment for Big Wipes. The findings were as follows:
‘Based on preliminary evaluation the product Big Wipes SYC MP 4-002 is safe for human health when used under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use in accordance to the Regulation EC No. 1223/2009.’ Safety Assessment Statement by KFT Chemieservice GmbH.
REACH Registration Compliance
REACH is a European Regulation (No 1907/2006) concerning chemicals and their safe use. It aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment through a system of Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. All Big Wipes products are REACH compliant.
Compliance with Dermatological Testing
We regularly and rigorously test our products on volunteers. These dermatology tests are carried out independently by professional dermatologists on a cross-section of people. After 48 hours of a single exposure to Big Wipes, zero levels of reaction or irritation were experienced across the entire volunteer group. In addition, we are proud to say that Big Wipes does not test on animals.
In stark contrast, some competitors who make dermatology claims, often attempt to rely on inadequate replica tests on animals. Similarly, they claim unsubstantiated comparative testing against competitors’ products that only demonstrates that their products are “less irritating” than others.
All Big Wipes cleaning wipes and the Power Spray also carry the additional benefit of an effective antibacterial accreditation. As a result, this provides added protection to users working in potentially hazardous external or internal environments.
The Institute of Food Microbiology and Consumer Goods Ltd tested Big Wipes antibacterial wipes, which subsequently were found to have excellent antimicrobial activity. Most importantly, the Big Wipes formula kills 99.9% of bacteria and completely eliminates the following tested strains:
- Escherichia coli, E. Coli
- Salmonella typhimurium
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Streptococcus faecalis
- Enterobacter aerogenes
- Aspergillus brasiliensis
- Lactobacillus plantarum
- Saccharamyces cerevisia
Leptospira (Weil’s Disease) Testing
Furthermore, Big Wipes tested as effectively preventing the incubation of Leptospira (Weils) interrogans strain RGA.
The OIE Leptospiros Reference Laboratory states the following: “no ‘Leptospira interrogans serovar icterhohaemorrhagiae’ strain was detected in the media which was inoculated with the Big Wipes sections which were exposed to leptospires.” Read more about Weil’s disease here.
In summary, we hope that you can see that the health of our customers’ skin is extremely important to us. Therefore, we were absolutely delighted (but not surprised) that independent product analysis company, Yuka App rates Big Wipes as EXCELLENT. Most importantly, Big Wipes is the only brand of wipes to receive this accolade.
