Despite swearing last year to never do this again, the Big Wipes team took part in London Revolution 2017. The London Revolution ride is an annual cycle event which has become a must-do favourite in the cycling world. Saddles ablaze, the Big Wipes (chain) gang covered 185 grueling miles over the course of a 2 day weekend.
The 2017 revolution loops around London
Joining the hundreds of riders who came together from all over the country, the Big Wipes team set off early Saturday morning from Lee Valley Showground.
With a few miles under their belt, the cyclists ventured into the iconic city of London. They rode over Tower Bridge, past the Shard, Crystal Palace and other royal, historical and architectural landmarks. Continuing to pedal southbound from the city centre, the teams eventually left the urban cityscape behind them. There were then faced with the stunning climbs and descents of the North Downs before cycling west to Windsor Great Park. After 100 miles, they finally arrived at their legendary campsite in Ascot on Saturday afternoon.

After a good night’s sleep , the lycra-clad Big Wipes team departed from Windsor in the early hours of Sunday. They then passed close to home through Marlow before reaching the first of the day’s challenge: the Chiltern Hills. After conquering the climbs, they left behind picturesque fields, sheltered roads and some steady inclines before reaching the finish line. The Big Wipes troupe finally closed the loop at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday afternoon, tired but elated.
Nigel Dibbo, head of Big Wipes and the cycle team enthused: ” London Revolution 2017 was such a brilliantly organised event. London was fully supported with sign posts, so there was no danger of us getting lost. We also really appreciated the various pit stops throughout the day providing free snacks and hot and cold drinks. Above all, the facilities and medical and mechanical support were second to none! ”
Nigel added: “We got to experience the heritage of London and saw some incredible countryside. Not only did we test our endurance and skill levels, we also made friends with like-minded riders. It really (wheelie?) feels like a great achievement!”
